The 2nd annual ground-breaking Gaborone Book Festival (GBF 19) was held at the University of Botswana Conference Centre and Maitisong under the theme #AreBaleng from the 19th – 21st September 2019. As part of developing a culture of reading from grassroots, through the student Knowledge Ambassadors, IDM strategically partnered with GBF to deliver the exciting educational Teen Student Zone to drive this noble initiative, a Social Responsibility agenda.
About 200 students from different schools were part of this festival, powered by IDM. Schools that were part of the student zone included Ramotswa Centre for the Deaf, Tlhabologo Primary School, Notwane Primary School, Solomon Dihutso Primary School, Ketshwerebothata Primary Mantshwabisi Primary School, Tshiamo Primary school and Camp Primary school.
IDM had sponsored Mantshwabisi Primary School and Tshiamo Primary school as part of the Adopt-a-school campaign to participate in the book festival. The aim of the book festival is to encourage children to read at an early age and to foster a love for reading among Batswana by hosting a series of events to promote Botswana and African Literature.
A delegation of 46 including 24 pupils and teachers from Mantshwabisi and Tshiamo Primary Schools, 16 IDM Knowledge Ambassadors and 5 IDM staff members participated in the event.
