Matsapha Town Council and the Institute of Development Management signed an mou recently that aims to be mutually beneficial to the two entities for capacity building and for collaboration.
The agreement was signed at the Matsapha Town Council chambers. Speaking at the event Dr Mabila IDM Country Director said Matsapha Town Council should not limit themselves to the sourcing of skills for development locally but also open up to the tripartite in which IDM operates (Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini). IDM is turning 50 next year and the regionality is yet to live on.
Representing the Council’s CEO was Corporate Services Manager Mr Simelane who said following the signing of the mou a technical team would be selected which will look into operationalizing the mou. He said ‘We will learn as we go along so that long after we are gone the mou can be a legacy we leave behind for the institutions to use. We are proud to partner with IDM which is rich in culture and history in the formation of its regionality.”
The purpose of the mou is to jointly conceptualize and identify priority areas for collaborating towards mobilization of resources and undertaking capacity building programmes to improve municipal service provision and training services, in order to align with the ever-changing needs of the economy of the Kingdom of Eswatini, national development strategy and job-markets. To collaborate in engaging in forums, use and/or exchange of resources, infrastructure, staff, and skills to enhance the achievement of the mandates for both MTC and IDM.
The agreement also seeks to help with empowering IDM students by providing internship programmes aimed at giving students an insight to the operations of the work environment.
