Motlamelle Anthony Kapa obtained a Ph.D. in Politics from Rhodes University, South Africa (2011), and an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Toronto, Canada (2005). He joined the National University of Lesotho (NUL) in 2002, as a Teaching Assistant and rose to his current rank of Associate Professor. He has served as the Head of the Department of Political & Administrative Studies (PAS) for three consecutive terms and as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the NUL. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute of Development Management (IDM) (May 2018 – to date). He is also a member of the NUL/Metropolitan Research Chair in Pension Law Advisory Board (May 2021 - to date); a member of the National University of Lesotho Defined Contribution Pension Fund Board of Trustees (December 2022 to date); the NUL-World Trade Organisation Chair Holder (November 2021 to date). He served as a Part-Time Chairperson of the Lesotho Law Reform Commission and; a member of the National Reforms Authority (NRA). He conducts research and publishes widely and extensively in the areas of elections and conflict; political parties and coalitions; civil society and democratisation; policy analysis; traditional leadership and local governance. His other professional activities include: providing consultancy services on general governance issues in Lesotho for the Government of Lesotho, and local and international organisations; briefing international election observer missions during elections since 2007; providing community service to local civil society organisations; serving as external examiner for Ph.D. theses and Master’s dissertations for several universities in southern Africa.
