As the journey towards celebrating its Golden Jubilee commences, IDM hosted teams from its campuses in Lesotho, Eswatini, Gaborone and Francistown to a Staff Development retreat in January 2024. The event connected teams and enabled them to bond as one entity whilst discussing sustainable ways of moving the brand forward.

Held under the theme "Celebrating 50 Years of Diverse Excellence", the initiative saw a hype of activities ranging from motivational talks, academic engagements, cultural display to sports and recreation.  To many it brought a sense of oneness, marking a transformational journey of an institution that plays a pivotal role in the education sector in its three founding countries and beyond.

IDM is the brainchild of Sir Seretse Khama, founding president of the Republic of Botswana, the great King Moshoeshoe II of the Kingdom of Lesotho and the great King Sobhuza II of the Kingdom of Eswatini who established it in 1974.
Officially opening the event, IDM Regional Board Chairperson, Ms. Gaone Manzini Macholo reminded teams that the retreat offered an opportunity for the Institute to reflect on what they can do better for their many stakeholders.

"At the same time, this platform is critical in our employee value proposition and development. Employee recognition is integral to our business success as we pride in their crucial contribution to the milestones we have achieved over the years. I wish to commend management for hosting such a sterling initiative and creating a bond between the IDM tripartite nations," she said.

For his part, IDM Regional Director, Samkelo Lushaba challenged staff to use the opportunity to find ways of how the institution can ready itself for the changing education landscape.

Among renowned speakers during the three-day event included former UCT Vice Chancellor, Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng, Dr. Kgomotso Jongman of Jo'Speaks, the popular motivational speaker; newspaper Columnist and business process strategist, Mr Oteng Veron Mosalakatane, as well as Former CEO of South African Qualifications Authority, Mr Joe Samuels.

To sum it up, Staff embarked on various team building activities at Bank of Botswana sporting grounds, which started with an intense aerobics session on Friday morning.
