In the quest to address the need for human capital development and capacity building in the realm of privacy and data protection, the Institute of Development Management (IDM) and Botlhole Law Group have entered into an agreement.
The Data Protection Act, which regulates the processing of personal data, came into effect in October 2021. Notably, personal data is the lifeline of all organisations, both governmental and non-governmental organisations, therefore all organisations processing personal data are required to ensure compliance within the transition period of the Act.
Compliance with the Act requires the implementation of organisational and technical safeguards that give effect to the data protection principles entrenched in the Act. Such implementation requires adequate skills and understanding of the regulatory framework. It further requires enterprise-wide awareness of what the Act seeks to protect, why and how.
The duo will avail their adequately resourced expertise to provide a conducive environment for continuous learning and development, further supporting Botswana’s effort to transform into a knowledge based economy, digital transformation and achieve high-income economy status by 2036.
The agreement will further see delivery of several Non-Credit Bearing Short Courses including, but not limited to Cybersecurity Law; Electronic evidence law; Contract law; Procurement law; Anti-money laundering law; Public Policy & Regulation for Technology; as well as Employment & Labor law.
