Laboratories and Equipment

IDM has in Gaborone three computer laboratories, one in Lesotho and one in Swaziland. All labs are equipped with Pentium PC's, networked under Windows NT. The labs in Gaborone are connected to the Internet via a Proxy-server on a fixed leased line. The web-server (Microsoft Internet Information Server) makes it possible to demonstrate the use of an Intranet.
Each laboratory has a printer, which acts as a network printer. In each laboratory some stations are configured as multimedia machines.
All labs are equipped with the latest software: Microsoft Office Professional, Microsoft Project, Corel Ventura 8.0, AccPacc, Computer Based Training packages, etc.
These laboratories are very carefully configured for an optimum learning environment. The students have the freedom to change many of the settings (intentionally as a learning experience or by accident as they are still learning), but at the next start-up all settings are back to standard. This is a vital element, which greatly facilitates the teaching.
IDM has also an A4-Scanner, a 2GB Jaz drive (removable media) and Modems. These are demonstrated to students as appropriate. Multimedia projectors are used to further improve the quality of the teaching.
